As a “Professional” Web Designer I am always surprised when I come across a website designed by a so called “Pro”. When the site looks like Grandma’s 12 year old grandson Johnny built the site. I am also surprised that the client paid a lot of money for this “creative masterpiece of crap”. For some reason the general public is under the impression that “ANYONE” can built a website. Then after several months when the site is NOT performing, the client is scratching their head wondering “WHY?”.

Here is a checklist to help you identify an Amateur Designer:

Look at the Designers Own Company Website: A designer’s website will showcase most of their design skills and creative talents. It should be the BEST of what they are capable of.

Look at the Designers Portfolio: Do all their designs have a similar look and feel? Or is each design different and unique.

Call Companies Listed in their Portfolio: Contact their clients and get all the information you can.

The Web Designer uses FrontPage: Any developer / designer with a degree knows that Microsoft FrontPage most definitely isn’t a professional tool. A solid Web Developer should work at code level.

The Web Designer calls himself a Webmaster: The term “webmaster” has become a translation for the word “amateur.” The web has diversified into so many different realms that webmaster is no longer meaningful.

Suggests to add Flash Animation into the site: Flash is not SEO friendly and most Smartphones can not read Flash.

SEO is NOT included with your website: Why would anyone build a website and not put in SEO so people can find that new website.

A Template is used: Your website will look like so many others online. Apro will create a custom look to help brand you from your competition.

Browser Compatibility: An efficient web designer will test your web site across browsers, insuring that the majority of people on different browsers can view your web site the way it should be displayed.

Can’t add a Blog into the design: Blog links to a stand alone blog site like www.wordpress.org. The webmaster says that is the only way!

Our favorite question to ask NEW clients is “How is your website performing?” Most of them answer “GOOD”…Immediately we start asking them a series of other questions.

How many people are visiting your website every month?

How many people are calling you, or walking in the door because of your website?

How much product or services have you sold through your website?

What pages of your website do visitors like the most?

What pages of your website do visitors like the least?

What page of Google do you appear on in the search results for your business?

Where in the World are most of your customers coming from?

9 out of 10 people answer these questions with and blank stare, and say “I DON’T KNOW”. Now 10 out of 10 OneKubed Clients know the exact answers to these questions, because we provide EVERY client with a Monthly Site Traffic Report”. Most people realize that in order to have success they NEED a website. But in a market so saturated with web designers, SEO Experts, Social Media bulldogs, and Branding Genies…Where does an entrepreneur begin? Around the office we say it is as EASY AS 1,2,3!!

Step 1: What is the Purpose of Your Website? Call to Action?

Building a website is about more than just making something that looks nice. It has to function well, it needs to drive users WHERE you want them to go and COMPEL them to do business with you. In a world of boring corporate websites, OUR TEAM will make yours stand out from the crowd & the competition. The websites we develop work great, because our Web Development Team is the best at what they do. We are constantly keeping up on industry trends, techniques, and best practices. We’ll get you great results, too. We’re one of the few Web Design Companies focused on your business needs. We’ll put together a comprehensive custom Web Development Strategy, which includes your Sales Funnel, Call to Action, and an Internet Marketing plan to achieve your goals.

Step 2: Branding! How do I Stand Out from the Rest?

Once the logo has been chosen, it should be used regularly and consistently throughout your branding strategy, in order to represent your organization or product wherever possible. You should combine the elements of your branding — organization name, slogan and logo — on each piece of correspondence you make or advertising space you buy related to your product. This means that website, letterheads, business cards, emails, plus promotion, print media and advertising, should bear the main elements of your branding, EVEN Vehicle wraps! In doing this, your branding will be extended to the reaches of everything you and your products do, and will continue to spread the word of your growing success.

Step 3: My Website is Completed & LIVE online…Now What?

Once your website project is complete, our customer support does not stop there! One of the many advantages to the Comprehensive Monthly Maintenance Agreement is to partner with us for continued Design & Development of your NEW website. Rather than pricing out the cost of each update, tweak, new page or deletion. We continue to partner with you to make sure the website flows and grows with your business. Your website needs monthly attention to keep content fresh and up to date, while ensuring that your call to action, sales funnel, and branding stay on target.

#1 DO – Hire a professional Webmaster, because they will build your site in a way that will increase traffic, provide dynamic interaction with each visitor, import SEO tactics, and maintain the overall security and function of the site.
DON’T – Use a template service, because they do not provide SEO, or a unique look and feel. Plus you will not be able to brand your company from print to web, which is important for marketing your company to the world.

#2 DO – Add articles and external or back links to your site to help your rank higher in Google, Yahoo, NSN, or Bing.
DON’T – Register your website with Google, Yahoo, MSN, or Bing. This will only delay the web crawlers from finding and indexing your site.

#3 DO – Be creative with your design and layout. Give your web designer some input on what colors and style you would like. Professional web designers can create ANY look you have in mind. Stand out and be different!
DON’T – Copy the layout of a competitor or another website you like. Most sites are copyrighted and you will get in trouble duplicated someone else’s design.

#4 DO – Trust your web master to do what they do best! To build a unique site, to display your information in the best Internet layout, code your site for SEO, and keep people from bouncing off your site once they are there.
DON’T – Think that you are a Webmaster! You have your company and that is what you do best. So focus on your company, then explain to your Webmaster what you do. Leave the website tactics and strategies to your web master. If you both stick to what you are good at, then your site will have success.

#5 DO – Know the purpose of your website. Why are you building a site? How will it increase your business? Who are you targeting for customers? What are you promoting or selling?
DON’T – Just build a website because you want to be on the internet.
